Excellent ABC 1-Hour Drama News! (Now Illustrated with Stars in White Dresses)
Despite
alleged backstage Lohan drama -- which, honestly, how can you not believe it -- Ugly Betty has been just as awesome -- if not better than ever-- this season. After it's brilliant first season, I really thought it would run out of steam quickly. But it still feels just as fresh in season three (..which is really season 2.5 thanks to the strike...but anyway...) But even still, this is surprisingly great news that will probably make the show even better; the LA Times reports that Bernadette Peters is going to guest star as a competing magazine's diva-lite editor. Fantastic! (Please insert humorous musical theater related pun here; thanks Stephen.)
Speaking of ABC Thursday night, last season I found the trifecta of Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy, and Lost -- all shows I enjoy individually -- exhausting to watch -- especially with Lost at the end. First, it is a show that I really try to watch live (or at least the same night) so the Next! Big! Twist! doesn't get spoiled for me the next day while it it sits on my TiVo. But starting it at 9:00 or 10:00 or 11:00 was just way too much. And it also didn't gel very well with the tone of the other two shows. So imagine my delight when I read that to give Life on Mars a boost, ABC was considering moving Lost to Wednesday night and pairing Private Practice with Grey's on Thursday. Though two hours of medical dramas on Thursday may seem like too much, folks have been watching ER for four score and seven years (roughly) so people have like stranger, weaker things.
Samaire Armstong is coming back for a cameo as my third-favorite Darling on Dirty Sexy Money for the Thanksgiving episode. Even though we're three episodes or so behind on this show, the one's I've watched this season have, like Betty, been delightful.
All of these positive bullet points are completely ignoring the fact that the news/ratings for Pushing Daisies has not been good. I hope you're enjoying escaping from your troglodyte lives watching Dancing with the Stars on Monday and Tuesday, America, since you can't seem to tune in to ABC for one more stinkin' hour for a show that's actually bright, beautiful, and brilliant with harany sequins.
My apologies for calling you a troglodyte to anyone who watches both DWTS and Pushing Daisies... or anyone who watches DWTS in an ironic way...or at least mocks it as they watch...but really, you should be watching the Pie-Man, his girlfriend and dog he can't touch lest they die, their pop-up book and knitting loving tough guy P.I. friend, and Kristen Chenoweth not being annoying...except in character... also Swoozie Kurtz and Ellen Green playing retired synchronzied swimming mermaids...one of whom is a one-eyed drunk...seriously, how is this not more beloved than oversized NFL players ballroom dancing...I truly don't get the world.
