Dear Chicago:
Oprah closed down a major street so she could film her show downtown for one full day following a holiday. Buses are being re-routed. Traffic is a little snarly. But could you please quit treating it like the snow isn't getting plowed or Bartman stole your ball or you lost your contact on "L" platform on the evening of July 3 or somebody put ketchup on your hot dog or some other related to Chicago calamity?
Stuff happens. Sometime even shit happens. And sometimes its stuff/shit you don't care about but other people do, and their pleasure becomes your inconvenience.
But the facts are these: we live in a great city and sometimes you have to put up with others in order to do so.
It's one thing to act like a Second City and live in the shadow of New York like some sort of insecure Jan Brady. I'm used to that. But "Oprah Closes Blocks: How This Affects YOU!" is not a valid headline or lead news story. It is a topic of conversation. We are not Cousin Oliver.
With tough love,
Mike
