Okay, actually I have a little more to add; from their Wikipedia entry:

Shields and Yarnell expect to wrap up their "Farewell Reunion Tour" in November 2007.

Sadly, we missed it.  But maybe they'll say farewell like Cher and do it a couple more times.  Or maybe they'll be trapped in a box and I can catch that.  Or a windy street.   Or [insert stereotypical, not funny, mime joke here]

The End Result of Abstinence-Only Sex Ed -- CELEBRITY EDITION

Hey everbody -- it's time for my favorite game, "I Told You So and I Am Always Right!"

Remember back when Britney Spears only had crazy in her soul, hidden behind her sometimes crazy eyes, and she was always talking about how she wasn't giving it up to Justin Timberlake, that virginity is a virtue, blah blah blah...

And remember how I said that even though I didn't think it was Britney's responsibility to be a role model, this doubletalk was going to lead impressionable young girls down a troubled path because Brtiney was obviously having sex, and, in fact, selling her sexuality, but shaming young girls into not admitting to their own sexual explorations/experimentations/celebrations, which leads to all kinds of mistakes...

Just saying.

Why Yes I Am Self-Aware of my Total Geek Status in Triplicate

It's been nearly 3 months since I've posted 3 times in a day, and I'm totally aware that the fact that the subjects of these posts have been:

1. Doctor Who
2. The Dark Knight
3. Star Trek: The Next Generation

makes me overwhelmingly geeky.

And I don't care.

 

Showtime Exec Admits: American Audiences Aren't Stupid!

Yay!   With Doctor Who Magazine available in every Borders (and even many Waldenbooks) and Torchwood giving BBC America it's highest ratings to date, it would seem that the Whovian invasion of the United States couldn't get much broader -- and couldn't make me much happier.

Until today -- when I read that Showtime is bringing ITV2's Secret Diary of a Call Girl to our shores.

Call Girl stars Billie Piper -- best known to me as Rose Tyler, the Doctor's former companion.  Billie is beyond phenomenal and I hope this makes her the big star she deserves to be.

But what thrills me even more than this news is the details hidden in the Variety article on it:

Greenblatt's first instinct was to option "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" and adapt it for the States.

"He asked me if I thought there was an American version, and I said, 'Yeah, this one,'" Albrecht said. "I told him he wasn't going to be able to make a show better than this (version)."

After watching more episodes, Greenblatt agreed, saying he was particularly captivated by Piper's Belle.

"We decided to bring it to Showtime as is," he said, adding that he doesn't think Showtime auds will be distracted by Brit accents.

Yes, Americans can listen harder and not be "distracted" by those funny sounding voices. 

Also Piper IS captivating.   That is all.

Porn trailers notwithstanding, I've never gotten a hard-on for a movie preview before.  But this one just about gets me close.

And it's not because Christian Bale is so fuckin' hot (because he is)

Or because Maggie Gyllenhall is obviously going to kick ass (because she is -- Katie who?)

Or because, as has been well-documented by others, Heath Ledger's Joker is so strangely arousing.

But it's because I'm just so god damned geeked out for this -- AND it's otherworldly yet is so obviously the streets I live and work on.

Fantastic Monday Video Mashup

Ever wonder what it would sound like if Star Trek: The Next Generation was filmed in front of a live studio audience?  Here's a possibility.   (Fortunately, it's an awesomely enthusiastic one -- like the ones who hooted every time Kelly Bundy entered an episode for the first time.)

The theme music (which comes in about 3 minutes in) seals the joke.

Gawker posted this headline this morning, Best Week Ever this afternoon, and I keep laughing at it so I had to repeat it.  I like to think that somewhere, Tina is laughing too.  And eating cake.

("Wasn't he already dead?" was overheard here at work today twice in about twenty seconds.)

It would not be funny if my face was forced into birthday this evening.  Too soon.
